There's lots of smart cookies in the world today.
But do you know who the smartest one is?
Our Heavenly Father is.
He must be able to multi-task.
Or else He wouldn't be able to help all of us, would He?
Well, He also has a sense of humor.
Definitely speaking from personal experience.
But you know what else He does?
He puts us in certain situations at certain times,
for certain reasons.
I'll give you an example.
This is happening in my life right now.
In January my Mom and I decided I should go and take a college class at TVC.
So Mom, my older sister and I started looking at the classes.
The one I'm taking ended up being a communication class.
It's all about communication in small groups.
It's a basic class but it's also required here @ TVC and UAF.
So I started the class the end of January.
The first few weeks were about public speaking.
I've heard that I'm a pretty good public speaker
even though I'm always scared to death.
But apparently I don't show it.
The first few weeks were kinda bleh.
We were getting to know each other
and how interact.
Then the middle of February we started in small group communication.
Well, guess what?
In my church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Mormons, there is no paid ministry.
We have a bishop, like a pastor, and he has 2 counselors.
But they don't give the talks or sermons every Sunday.
There are 3 or 4 speakers every Sunday.
Sometime during the week, either the bishop or one of his counselors will call 3 or 4 members of the congregation and ask them to give a talk (like a short sermon) on Sunday.
I've given plenty of those.
So, there's not paid ministry in my church.
So what?
There's also callings issued to members of the congregation.
The middle of February I was given a calling.
I accepted it.
I was also recognized in our church meeting as having accepted the calling
and was sustained, or supported, by the members of the congregation.
The calling that I accepted was that of Family Home Evening Co-chair.
In my church, Monday night has been set aside as a time when families can have an evening together. Especially since our lives seem so hectic all the other nights of the week.
I am currently in a Singles Branch.
It's a congregation of young (18-30 years of age), single adults.
Obviously, the main goal is to get us married off.
We have a Branch Family Home Evening since most of us are college student living away from home.
Part of my calling, as Family Home Evening Co-chair, is to be part of a committee who plans a lesson and activity for every Monday night.
As you can see, I am a co-chair.
I'm not all by myself.
I share the responsibility.
And we have a committee consisting of six more people to help us.
8 of us are in charge of making Family Home Evening happen every week.
That was a long explanation, sorry for those of you who already knew that.
But I wanted to be clear, since I know this is open pretty much to the entire world.
Anyways, so I was taking the communication class.
When I first started the class I thought,
Why the heck am I taking this class?
What use can it be to me, really?
But then I was called as Family Home Evening Co-chair.
And it's so cool!
Because with my communication class,
we only meet once a week.
But we've been learning the basics of starting communication in small groups.
And it's awesome because each week I can apply what I've learned in class to my calling.
It's amazing!
If I hadn't gotten that calling as Family Home Evening Co-chair
I'd probably be bored in class.
But because I did get that calling,
I'm actually excited to go to class!
But you want to know a secret?
I didn't realize how all of that worked together until last week over Spring Break!
It's been coming but I didn't realize it.
But I've always known that our Heavenly Father was one smart cookie.
I hope that anybody who reads this knows that as well!
P.S. That's just one experience I've had where I knew Heavenly Father was a smart cookie.
There are many, many more!
:D
