So since I don't have a job at the moment and I'm pretty much just waiting for my teacher to grade my internship so I can have my certificate, what am I supposed to do?!
Well.... I've been thinking a lot about school lately. Yes, technically I'm still a student, since my certificate isn't in the mail yet. But I know I want to go back to school. I want to go back and get a degree either in Special Education, Speech Pathology, or Elementary Education. All seem monstrous and super important/influential. They definitely are! I'm trying to decide where I should go. And when.
When I moved home I originally planned on just working for a year and then serving a mission for my church. Now I think the Lord is calling me to do something else. He wants me to pursue higher education while I'm still young (and possibly a man as well?). All I know for sure is the He wants me to move again.
I'm looking at a few schools and my brain is going numb, because of the prices. It'd be ideal for me to go to BYU in Provo, Utah or to BYU-Idaho in Rexburg, Idaho (since I'd be getting a decent tuition price). I'm also looking into USU and UVU; my main hold up with these schools is that I don't have residency and I would prefer that.
I don't think that anyone really reads this blog, but
if you have an opinion
of which school I ought to attend,
please share your thoughts!
Or even offer suggestions of other universities.
And thanks in advance!
So, no I don't have a job. And, yes, I know school costs money. But I'm thinking the Lord needed to set me straight about where that money would be going before He blessed me with a job. So, hopefully, He'll help me find a job, now that I understand what He wants me to do! :]
Hay! I read this :) ... I guess you could say I'm a tad bit biased.. but I think you'd really like it here in BYU-Idaho. It's not a huge town, but bigger than North Pole, so I feel comfortable getting around without being overwhelmed by lots of cars/people/buildings..of course you might be used to that by now living in SLC haha, but I feel like it's more a homey kind of town.
ReplyDeleteI haven't taken any classes but Jonathan always admires his teachers and loves what he learns here, plus it's a really great learning environment, and you'll make lots of friends! Oh.. and Jonathan's brother is a really hard worker and has tried his best to get good grades. With his 3.9 he got last semester the school was able to pay for this semester's tuition costs and he was able to qualify for scholarships..so he doesn't even have to worry about costs this semester. Pretty cool! Anyway, I know you're smart and you will do well wherever you go! Good luck on your endeavors!

I LOVE BYU-Idaho, and I really think you would love it and learn and grow so much there. BYUProvo is big and competitive and BYUidaho is smaller, and geared more at helping you do what you want to do rather than the big Provo pick a major and do it the same way as everybody else. I LOVED my teachers, my classmates, roommates, ward, everything about it there (except that Travis wasn't there, ha!) Anyways, that would be my pick. Also, UAF does have a good program, and its local which could save you big time. Just saying....
ReplyDeleteOk.
ReplyDelete1. I heart BYU-Idaho. They do NOT have a speech pathology program. Their education program is better than BYU.
2. BYU is huge, they DO have a speech pathology program, BUT, to do speech pathology you have to have a Master's degree. Provo has lots to do, but if you're a small town girl... Provo may not be your scene. AND. I know lots of girls who transferred from BYU to UVU's ed program because in Provo you sit in classes and in UVU you actually get into the schools.
3. UVU and USU are both WUE schools, so you can get resident tuition without giving up your awesome Alaska resident status AND PFD.
3.1. UVU- I went there- AWESOME professors- BUT, it's like a glorified high school I like their el ed program, don't know about their sped. They do not currently, to my knowledge have a SLP program.
3.2 USU, Logan is gorgeous, great school AWESOME SLP program.
4. UAF has a great SPED program! And close to home, AND you could get your masters in Utah or anywhere you choose, AND since Alaska needs SPed and SLP teachers SOOO badly, you can work under a waiver. Translation, you can do the job with just a bachelor's degree and get paid teacher's salary while you get your Master's degree!
5. Boys are dumb. :)
The end. Good luck. Let me know if you have questions.
Thanks for the input, ladies!! And let me just say that the three of you are amazing. :]
