November 2010

Lately there have been lots of moments in my classes, especially my English class, where the class discussion turns to interesting topics. Last week we were talking about persuasive essay. So the class was divided into groups and given a topic to persuade a specific audience to agree or disagree with. Most of the topics were 'safe' topics. The question my group got was 'Is gymnastics the best all-around sport?' That question can mean a bunch of different things but it's 'safe' and not a 'touchy' topic.Another of the questions, however, was kind of 'touchy'. The group was assigned to persuade a specific group to consider legalizing 'doctor assisted suicide'.Now I could go on and on about how the conversation went and what was said among me and my classmates, but that's not what I want to focus on.

The thing that amazes me most about all of these class sessions is how my peers don't understand their divine worth!

I grew up knowing what the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints taught and believing each of the principles taught. One of those principles is that each of the people who ever has been, is and will be upon the earth is of a divine worth.Heavenly Father (God) and Jesus Christ love every person.

I believe that when Jesus Christ died on the cross, He did a LOT of amazing things for all mankind. He was perfect. Because of that, He made the ultimate sacrifice, His life. He did this for many reasons. So that all mankind would have the opportunity to live with God again. So that all mankind could know of His teachings and how He and God want us to live, so that we can be worthy to live with them again. He died for mankind so we can have eternal life, so we can know that there is more than just this life. Jesus Christ made all of this possible because of what He did in the garden of Gethsemane. Jesus prayed to His Father in Heaven (God) and took upon Himself and felt all the pains, happiness, hardships, all emotions and physical pains that the entirety of mankind had and would ever experience. He knows what every person has ever gone through and what every person will ever go through.

How cool is that to know that you're not the only person to ever go through certain experiences? Christ knows what's going on and how it feels!

Isn't it cool to know that there was and is a person who cared so much about every person that He would sacrifice His life for us?

"Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you." (John 15: 13-14)We are Christ's friends and He laid down His life so that we may benefit and eventually have the chance to become perfect, like Him.

And none of the people in my class have any idea about this.My heart breaks to know that there are so many people out in the world who don't know very much, if anything, about what the Savior did for us.I want to go out and share my knowledge with them! This will probably take some doing. But guess what? I'm going to do it.

I'm making a resolution right now. Even though it's still almost 2 months til New Year's, when we usually make resolutions, I am making it now.

I RESOLVE TO SHARE THE GOSPEL WITH PEOPLE IN MY EVERY DAY LIFE. I WILL START WITH THE SIMPLE GOSPEL TRUTHS AND MAKING OTHERS AWARE OF HOW INDIVIDUAL THEY ARE AND THAT THEY EACH HAVE DIVINE WORTH.I RESOLVE TO BE MORE CONFIDENT OF MY KNOWLEDGE OF THE GOSPEL. THIS IS A LEARNING GOSPEL, I WILL NOT KNOW IT ALL RIGHT NOW. I WILL SHARE WHAT I KNOW NOW AND KEEP ON LEARNING.
