“I’m going to LDS Business College!” Those words have resonated through my soul every day since I first spoke them last fall. I have been to college before. ? Right after graduating from high school two years ago I took a few correspondence classes through BYU. I also went to a community college when I lived in Alaska. Why do the words, “I’m going to LDS Business College” matter so much to me then?
I think the fact that I have never lived away from my family before has a lot to do with why those words mean so much to me. Living in an apartment, with a roommate that I just met a week ago is a new experience for me but I am enjoying it immensely.
Going to LDS Business College also means that I had the opportunity to choose where my apartment would be. I chose to live in an apartment right next to Temple Square. How cool is that?! Back home, in Alaska, I was only able to go to the temple four times a year. Going to the Anchorage temple entailed a roundtrip drive lasting fourteen hours. I am so blessed to be living where I am. I plan on going to the temple twice a week and walking around Temple Square every chance I get!
I feel so blessed to be able to say, “I’m going to LDS Business College!” Because I am expanding my learning in one of the Lord’s colleges I am growing so much spiritually, emotionally, socially, and even culturally.
In Alaska, I was not attending the Singles’ Branch before I came here because the car that my sister and I shared had recently been totaled. Also, I worked in a child development center and there were no male employees there. I have not been around young single adults on a regular basis since December of last year. When I arrived in Utah a week ago it was very challenging for me to talk to men. Now, a week later, it is still hard for me to talk to men but because I am surrounded by men during my classes, and because the Lord is helping me, talking to men is becoming easier.
Coming to LDS Business College has been the hardest and best decision that I have ever made and put into action. I will be eternally grateful that I was able to speak the words, “I’m going to LDS Business College!” I am even more grateful, however, that I have finally been able to see that phrase go from an event that will be happening to an event that is happening.
